"Billing is confusing and no one takes ownership"
I ended up getting charged more than I expected, and the whole billing process felt unclear. When I tried to cancel, it wasn’t obvious what I needed to do, and when I reached out for help, it felt like nobody really wanted to take ownership of the issue. I kept getting passed around without a clear answer, which made an already frustrating situation even worse.

"The paywall got old really quick"
I barely got to read anything before it started asking me to pay, which got frustrating fast. Feels like every app does this now, and it just makes the whole experience annoying

"Local sports coverage has been weak"
I usually check providencejournal.com for local sports, but it’s been disappointing lately. A lot of the articles show up late, there isn’t much detail, and some games barely seem to get covered at all. Most of what I see is just quick recaps or stuff I already found somewhere else. For a local paper, I pretty much expected more focus on Rhode Island teams. At this point, it doesn’t really feel worth the hassle.

"Honestly, the app makes reading the news harder than it should be"
I want to like the Providence Journal app because the news itself is fine, but using it on my phone is just frustrating. It’s slow, articles take forever to open, and it freezes way more than any news app should. I’ve also been randomly logged out a few times, which is annoying when I just want to read something quickly. whoever is responsible for keeping this app running needs to spend some time actually using it, because it really needs work.
"It’s decent if you just want to keep..."
It’s decent if you just want to keep up with what’s happening nearby. I mostly use it for local stories, and it kind of reminds me of when I’d hear bits of neighborhood news from family or around town. Nothing fancy, but it does the job for staying connected.
"Print paper quality has really gone downhill"
I’ve been getting the Providence Journal in print for a while, but the quality lately is disappointing. The pages feel super thin, the ink rubs off on my hands, and some of the photos look blurry, almost like nobody checked them before they went out.
I tried calling about it, but I kept getting transferred around, which just made the whole thing more annoying. For what they charge, I expected a lot better. Delivery being late sometimes is one thing, but the paper itself feeling this cheap is what finally pushed me to cancel.
"I used to visit providencejournal.com all the..."
I used to visit providencejournal.com all the time, but lately I just don’t feel as confident in it. Maybe I’m already expecting to find problems now, but every time something seems a little off, it just reinforces that feeling for me.
A few stories have felt kind of rushed, with details that don’t quite match up or seem to change later without much explanation. Once I noticed it a couple times, I started paying closer attention, and now those little inconsistencies really stand out.
I know news happens fast and mistakes can happen, but accuracy is the whole point. If I’m paying for it and still feel like I need to check another site to make sure the basics are right, it’s hard for me to justify keeping the subscription

"Just not worth it for me anymore"
Well... I signed up for providencejournal.com because I wanted to stay on top of local news, but it just doesn’t feel worth the price anymore. A lot of the articles seem short or like they’re covering the same things over and over, and for what it costs, I expected more. Canceling wasn’t exactly straightforward either, which was frustrating.

I think the coverage has some balance at times, but the politics side can feel a little one-sided depending on the story

"Not the easy local news experience they promised"
I can get the site to work, but it’s way more frustrating than it should be. They make it sound like you’ll get quick, easy access to local news, but that’s not really what happens. Pages take forever to load, pop-ups keep blocking what I’m trying to read, and half the time the article jumps around right after I click it. I just wanted to catch up on what’s going on nearby, not deal with a bunch of hassles after being promised a simple experience.

"Feels like I’m being bounced around for thin stories"
I gave providencejournal.com a try for local news, but a lot of the articles feel shallow. I’ll click into a story expecting some background or a little more context, and then it just kind of stops. Sometimes it feels like I’m being passed from one short piece to another without ever getting the full picture. For a paid site, I was hoping for more depth. It’s probably fine if you just want quick headlines, but not great if you’re looking for a real breakdown of what’s going on

"Good for local stuff, but not always enough"
I still check the Providence Journal when I’m trying to get a feel for what’s happening around Rhode Island. Local meetings, events, neighborhood stuff, little community issues. Things you don’t really see on the bigger news sites. And sometimes that’s exactly what I’m looking for.
But yeah, it’s not perfect. Some articles feel a bit light. Like, you read it and think there should be more there. Updates can be slow too. So I use it here and there, but not as my only news source. It’s decent. Useful. Just not always enough.

"E-edition is such a hassle"
I just wanted to sit down and read the paper, but the e-edition makes it way harder than it should be. Half the time the pages take forever to load, the login randomly kicks me out, and trying to zoom around on my tablet is just clunky. I even ended up waiting in a support queue to get help, which only made the whole thing more annoying. It’s really frustrating to deal with this every morning...

"Delivery’s kind of a gamble"
The delivery is hit or miss. Some days it shows up fine, but most of the time it’s late. I’m not sure if it’s the drivers or whoever’s scheduling things, but someone’s definitely dropping the ball...

"Could barely get through an article"
I went on Providence Journal to read a couple of articles, but the ads made it frustrating. There were pop-ups, videos starting, things shifting around while I was trying to read, and it kept getting in the way. I get that sites need ads, but when they’re all over the place like that, it just feels like... I don’t know. I ended up closing it after a few minutes because it was more annoying than helpful.

"Account page is a mess"
Tried canceling online and my account page just kept sending me in circles. Ugh. Then the password reset took forever, so I ended up calling, and it’s still not fixed. Annoying. This really shouldn’t be that hard.

"I pay for Providence Journal, so..."
I pay for Providence Journal, so it’s frustrating when I still get locked out or have to sign in over and over. To be fair, it does work sometimes, but other days the app just spins forever or tells me I need a subscription even though I already have one.
I reached out to customer help, but they mostly just had me reset things and it didn’t really solve the problem. For a paid digital paper, I expected it to be a lot more reliable than this.

"Breaking news takes forever to show up"
I keep checking this app for breaking news, but the updates always seem to come in way too late. By the time I see anything here, I’ve usually already heard about it somewhere else, which is frustrating.

"Customer service just doesn’t respond"
I’ve reached out to Providence Journal a few times about a billing issue, and it feels like nobody’s on the other end 😕. My emails didn’t get a real response, and waiting on the phone took way too long.
When I finally did hear back, the reply didn’t even answer what I asked. It felt like a generic copy-paste message, which made the whole thing even more frustrating. Definitely not worth the hassle

"Good service, but canceling was frustrating"
I’ll give them credit, the service itself was decent while I used it, and I didn’t have many issues day to day. But trying to cancel my subscription was way more annoying than it needed to be. I felt like I kept getting redirected or pushed to stay instead of just being able to cancel quickly. It kind of left a bad impression, which is a shame because the actual product wasn’t bad.
